DESCRIPTION:During our recent retreat\, Ballet Icyeza had the wonderful opportunity to attend a workshop in Krakow\, Zakopane where we were introduced to a local dance studio in Zakopane named sokol Zakopane. The experience was both inspiring and enriching\, as we got to witness how dance can bring people together and express diversity in unique and creative ways. \nThrough this exchange\, we learnt about the different approaches the studio uses to incorporate culture\, identity\, and movement into their performances. SUMMARY:Celebrating Kwibohora 31:Rwanda's Journey Continues
DESCRIPTION:On July 4th 2025\, we gathered to celebrate Kwibohora 31-marking 31 years since the liberation of Rwanda. This annual event commemorates the beginning of Rwanda’s inspiring path toward resilience\, unity and progress. Under the theme “Rwanda’s Journey Continues\,” the event was hosted by the Embassy of Rwanda in Poland and  held at Sheraton Grand Hotel in Warsaw where it brought together the Rwandan community in Poland\, friends of Rwanda\, and guests from neighboring countries together with Polish Government officials among many invited guests in a shared spirit of celebration. \nAmong the many highlights of the event\, BALLET ICYEZA was honored to deliver a series of traditional dances that narrated our cultural depth truly captured the essence of celebration. For many\, it was not only a tribute to Rwanda’s journey but also a reminder of home-and for others\, a chance to feel the warmth of Rwandan culture during this ceremony. SUMMARY:Umugoroba wo Kwibuka-Night Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, during the month of April\, as the world observes a solemn period of remembrance for the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi\, Ballet Icyeza took the initiative and partnered with Rwandan Community Abroad in Poland to organize a Night of Remembrance—“Umugoroba wo Kwibuka”— under the theme “From History to Memory: Examining Rwanda’s journey\, Confronting Genocide Denial and Empowering Youth to Safeguard the Truth.” This event was put in place to emphasize the role of the youth in preserving and honoring the memory of our loved ones we lost and to promote unity. \nThe Night Vigil brought together Rwandan communities\, friends of Rwanda and representatives from neighboring countries to reflect on Rwanda’s historical journey\, recognize the dangers of genocide denial and silence in the face of injustice while also emphasizing on the responsibility of the youth in standing against denial and divisionism and build a peaceful and inclusive society. DESCRIPTION:On November 16\, 2024\, Ballet Icyeza was invited to perform in Brussels as part of the “Traditional Night” organized by East African Vibes. The event was held at the Birmingham Event Center where Ballet Icyeza shared the stage with renowned Rwandan Gakondo artist Ruti Joel together with Lionel Sentore among other performers delivering a captivating performance. \nBallet Icyeza together with all invited artists created an immersive experience for the audience through good music and dances. It was not only a night of entertainment and celebration but also an opportunity for Rwandans to reconnect with their roots and celebrate the cultural experience together. This concert highlighted the importance of cultural initiatives in strengthening the bond among Rwandans living abroad and introducing our culture to the outside world. DESCRIPTION:International Charity Bazaar (SHOM: the acronym for Spouses of Heads of Missions) which is an association of spouses and partners of Ambassadors (AEPs) or Chargé d’affaires (long-term in lieu of an Ambassador) accredited to\, and residing in Poland. This event is organized on yearly basis to raise money for (pre-qualified) charities in Poland. Their main philanthropic activity is the SHOM International Charity Bazaar\, which is traditionally held on the last Sunday of November or first Sunday of December\, at an appropriate venue. DESCRIPTION:On the Opportunity of 15th Anniversary of Pallotini Missionary foundation in Partnership with Fundacja Salvatti and Warszawa Opera Kameralna\,Ballet Icyeza was invited to perform at this luxurious Opera. With their eye-catching costumes and sophisticated dressings\, they magically appeared on the stage and showcased a spectular scene as per the photos revelation. The first scene was marked by drums beat where the dancers had to follow the beat and dancers had to follow it so as to dance\, last scenes were mostly marked by playbacks of recent Rwandan traditional songs later on Icyeza singers had to sing “Bagore beza”  a traditional song used by many troops and perfomed in many concerts\,We therefore went on with various traditional dances such as Ikinimba\,igishakamba\,etc……The rest scenes were very warming specifically to our beautiful audience watching this event. Many outcomes came from the audience; among them we can share one: “Icyeza performed at the last place but for me it felt like the beginning of the show”.

DESCRIPTION:The Umuganura Dance Celebration is a traditional Rwandan event that commemorates the harvest season and is deeply rooted in the country’s cultural heritage. Umuganura\, which translates to “first fruits” in English\, is a time of thanksgiving\, reflection\, and celebration of the bounty that nature has provided. \nDuring the Umuganura Dance Celebration\, communities come together to express their gratitude for the harvest through music\, dance\, and feasting. The event often takes place outdoors in a communal setting\, such as a village square or open field\, where people gather to partake in the festivities. \nTraditional Rwandan dances\, characterized by their rhythmic movements and vibrant costumes\, are an integral part of the celebration. These dances often tell stories of Rwandan history\, daily life\, and cultural values. Performers wear traditional attire that includes colorful fabrics\, intricately woven designs\, and distinct hairstyles. \nThis time on 05th of August 2023 in Poland Rwandan Community gathered at the ambassador’s residence ((Prof. Shyaka Anastase) in Warsaw on the invitation of Embassy of Rwanda in Poland\, to celebrate this event. \nBallet icyeza’s Oustanding Perfomance made the day more memorable and adorable to all the participants.
